的se additional 课程 meet the requirements by the Colorado Department 的教育 to teach in K-12 settings. You will obtain your Colorado teaching license at the end of this program which may be accepted by other states.

  的 夏天 Residential Session housing costs approximately $1,300 for students who stay in UNC's residence halls. Meals are an additional cost. Meal plans can be purchased.

• Practicum Experience

  During your T美国手语 program, you will be required to complete two practicum experiences to receive your degree.

  You should anticipate your practicum site might require you to submit a criminal 背景调查.  

  You are responsible for locating 和 securing the two practicum experience in your 当地.

  If a local practicum experience is unavailable, the T美国手语 program will support 和 assist you in finding local practicum experiences. 

  When you 和 the T美国手语 program cannot locate a practicum experience in your local area, you may need to travel or relocate.

  You are responsible for expenses you may incur, including but not limited to travel, room 和 board, meals, personal expenses, 和 so on.  

  的 美国手语IS Department does offer practicum experiences at the Greeley campus only for face-to-face 课程 (if available). 

• Language of Instruction

  T美国手语 uses a bilingual approach. Course content uses different modes of communication (美国手语, PSE, 和 written English) by Deaf 和 hearing instructors through different forms of media.

   

  的refore, you must be proficient in 美国手语 (native or near-native user) prior to applying.

• 研究生 Teaching Assistantship (GTA)

  Two paid graduate teaching assistantship (GTA) positions are available to T美国手语的学生: 语言的助理 和 夏天 Student Ambassador.

  Application period is summer with the 语言的助理 position starting in the 秋天.

  • Experience teaching or tutoring 美国手语 和 ability to effectively work with undergraduate 美国手语的学生.
  • Know or able to learn Google Drive/Docs, SharePoint, Microsoft Outlook 日历, Teams, 和缩放.

  Application period is spring with the 夏天 Student Ambassador position starting 在夏天.

  • Attend summer planning meetings during spring 和 communicate with T美国手语 coordinator.
  • Host summer orientation, assist incoordination of guest speakers, 和 lead activities.
  • Help with campus check-in on the Sunday prior to summer session.

  American Sign Language Teachers Association (美国手语TA) is a professional organization with a mission to perpetuate, preserve, 和 promote 美国手语 和 Deaf Culture through excellence in teaching. 美国手语TA has recognized T美国手语's defined exit competencies which ensure graduates have acquired the pedagogical framework to teach 美国手语 as a foreign/modern language in numerous settings.

  A Memor和um of Agreement has been ratified between 美国手语TA, UNC, 和 the T美国手语 program.

  As a T美国手语 graduate, you will receive a 1-year free complimentary membership as a certified 美国手语TA成员. 的re is an approximately $22 processing fee to issue your certificate.
